Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) and Grant Update

The environment team have had a few busy months with deadlines looming for many grants and schemes.

To date we have had 100 SFI agreements offered, which has generated just shy of £5 million for farmers over a 3-year period. The SFI has a rolling application window, and we are always happy to advise and assist.

The countryside Stewardship claim window has now closed and we have completed 175 claims.

A number of grants have been applied for these include.

  • Calf housing
  • Concrete Yard Renewal
  • Farming Equipment and Technology Fund (FETF)
  • Slurry
  • Boundary and Fencing

50 new SFI actions will be available from summer 2024.

Further funding of £72 million has been announced to tackle endemic diseases in livestock.

The additional financial support will help to

  • Eradicate Bovine Viral Diarrhoea (BVD) in cattle
  • Control Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome (PRRS) in pigs
  • Tackle a range of health conditions in sheep

The Prime Minister announced a major package of measures to support farmers and grow the UK’s farming and food sector. This includes:

  • Further support for farmers and growers affected by wet weather
  • New plan to increase domestic production in the UK horticulture sector
  • Food Security Index published setting out key data and trends
